When Brian Egan finished trade school and his apprenticeship as a carpenter he decided to trade the big city life of Chicago for the relaxed lifestyle of Oregon.
Like so many other entrepreneurs he got his contractor’s license and went to work as Brian Egan Construction Company. Brian and wife Kris moved to Corvallis in the early 1980s, where he established a flourishing contracting firm. By the early 90s, the Egans decided to open a kitchen and bath showroom where clients could see and touch the materials they worked with.
Brian began his training to be a Certified Kitchen Designer, taking evening classes through the National Kitchen and Bath Association. The classes provided valuable networking opportunities and established relationships that continue to this day, like a friendship with Mel Archer of Pacific Design Cabinets. Many years later, Pacific Design still provides custom cabinets for Corvallis Custom Kitchens & Baths’ clients!
In 1992, Brian earned his CKD – plus, the showroom opened in Downtown Corvallis and the company hired its first employee. Corvallis Custom Kitchens and Baths worked closely with the Oregon State University Department of Design and Human Environment, which had an NKBA-sanctioned program for aspiring Kitchen and Bath designers. Students from the program served as interns, learning about the business – and several of them have become our employees after graduation.
Brian passed the Certified Bathroom Designer test through the National Kitchen and Bath Association in 1996. After 10 years of design experience and extensive continuing education, Brian qualified to become a Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer in 2005. At that time, he was one of only 75 designers in the nation with that achievement.
