2022 Home Remodeling Trends

2022 Home Remodeling Trends

The end of every year gives way to the beginning of another, so inevitably we need to chat about the interior design trends 2022 has in store! Trends come and go, of course, and you may agree or disagree on what “they” say will be hot or not in the coming year. In the end, you’re the one who decides, and more often than not, our Corvallis neighbors make excellent style choices! So, considering the 7 elements of interior design (form, color, light, line, texture, pattern, and space), we’ve collected some of the options you might consider if you’re going to remodel in the coming year.

Warm, Earthy Tones

Speaking of color, people are craving more of it on their walls these days. There has been a shift from mostly white color schemes to warmer, richer tones. We're taking a turn towards the warmer, creamier, sunnier, softer hues. This means gray is becoming less popular, though it is not going away entirely. The key color scheme for 2022 is “warmth”. Warmer, richer variations of terracotta, desert shades, greens, citrus, and marigold hues that exude warmth are coming in strong. Warm earth tones go well in all parts of the house, including kitchens, dining rooms, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

Nature Inspiration

Continuing with the rise of earth tone color schemes are the textures and patterns of nature. Bringing the outdoors inside has been on the rise for a while and the whole “nature inspo” movement is not going away anytime soon. Modern wallpaper, paint, and other texture and pattern elements speak to foliage, florals, clouds, space, and even bold animal prints, as well as things that speak to culture and community as it relates to the earth and our place in it. But in addition to wallpaper, paints, and other texture accents that beckon nature, people are making more room for houseplants, big and small, in vintage or even ancient-looking planters. Again, this provides a feeling of timelessness, which is never the wrong way to go in remodeling.

Update to Modern Farmhouse Decor

Farmhouse style has been popular for a few years now, but it is starting to evolve as many designers are beginning to infuse it with bolder colors, charming personal touches, and more foliage and nature-related themes and forms. After a couple of difficult years in the world, people are gravitating toward more color, more variety, and incorporating a mixture of styles that complement each other.

Round, Curved Furniture Style

As for lines and spaces, we are seeing a shift away from harsh, straight, angular, and geometric shapes, especially with furniture styles. Curves and soft, textured styles that welcome and invite relaxation and exude comfort are emerging. There is a touch of the 80s coming back in here, but with a little less glam and a lot more softness, something we’ve all needed over the last couple of years. In fact, the curved furniture style also suits the boho aesthetic very well, which is another style that continues to thrive here in Corvallis.

Bold Jewel Tones

Eye-catching jewel tones are very in at the moment. Deep raspberry, navy or sapphire blue, apricot or rose, emerald greens are making a bold appearance in furnishings, artwork, wallpaper, and paint. Jewel tones bring life into our everyday spaces and shows off our personality and style. It also speaks well to the boho style, as well as many classic, timeless styles that won’t make the rich colors of 2022 fade in the face of changing trends a few years down the line.
